The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the WSL side.

Departure from Munich was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
