This latest animated series, the newest animated series from Critical Role, revealed an exciting introductory sequence. It features the beloved cast of misfits, misfits, and rogues kicking ass and taking names, while also hinting at multiple heart-wrenching backstories for key figures such as the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, Fjord.

Overall, the intro appears stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that something was missing in the song choice.

This sequence employs "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar composition created by producer and singer the talented musician. This piece originating from the official score of the same name, the second release released by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great nostalgic choice, and I suspect that fans of the sequel series will love its inclusion.

But for me, The Mighty Nein's opening doesn't quite capture the hype and energy that was part of the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by musician Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic in my view when it was first revealed in that year, and it improved further when cast member the performer wrote words to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.

Featuring vocals from one actress, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as the writer, the track was memorable and fun. At the time, I hadn't seen the second campaign at that point, but this was such an earworm that I still saved it on my device. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an episode of adventurous fun.

The show's opening with "the new song" doesn't strike the same chords in my opinion. It's a grand piece of music, but from what I know of the group, I can't help but feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.

Naturally, Critical Role has stated that the animated show will have a few surprises and differences from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its opening seems to be one of them.
