The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Shares He Has a Plan for How Pluribus Might Finish... For Now.

Vince Gilligan did not foresee that the Apple TV+ show would become a massive hit. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “It was unexpected the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

As the debut season of the acclaimed sci-fi show coming to an end—and a second season officially in the works—Gilligan and his team reflected on the audience reaction and whether it will impact the narrative path of Pluribus.

About the Overwhelming Fan Response

Anyone might to get sidetracked by the rampant praise and online debates regarding Pluribus. He is striving to steer clear of all that.

“It feels like force fed your favorite dessert and being in a state of bliss,” he says. “It's wonderful, but I get wind of it anecdotally, and that's on purpose. I have never looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would get lost in and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Regardless of his concerted efforts, there’s no way to avoid the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to take it in stride and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We don't try to adjust our writing,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not impacted by audience chatter.”

“We prefer to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan adds.

The Central Mystery: Does the creator Have a Plan for the Ending of Pluribus?

Given that Gilligan and his team aren’t being guided by public opinion, does it imply they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? The answer is yes… sort of.

“We've developed some potential directions about where the show might end up,” Gilligan says. “but we are always ready to abandon a decent plan for a better idea. That philosophy has guided us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we conceive of something superior and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

On the other hand, if plans fall through, director and writer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to use as a backup.

“I keep pitching that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and that's where they've been all along,” he says humorously, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Of course, one could always use the classics?

“I'd love for Carol to open her eyes next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is currently available on the streaming service.
