Iran Reports Attack on American Facility in Bahrain, During Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.
Tehran reports attacking a American military facility in Manama, as the country executed strikes throughout the Middle East in response for a large-scale and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone in the area of the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any destruction is not yet known and the US has yet to issue a statement.
Airspace Engagements
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house American military installations - stated they have shot down missiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on the Islamic Republic launched by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That initial attack - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on areas associated with the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the Iranian people to revolt against the leadership.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems dealt with the projectiles with high efficiency and destroyed a series of missiles," the statement continued.
Officials reported wreckage landed in a populated district in the capital, resulting in some material damage and killing a civilian.
The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
