Goalkeeper Mary Earps has publicly stated that her newly released autobiography was not created to “criticize individuals” and shared worry that audience feedback has been “misinterpreted.”

The ex-Lionesses player, who played a key role in the Euro 2022 victory, faced backlash from followers and Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor after commenting about former team-mate Hannah Hampton and head coach Sarina Wiegman.

In her autobiography, Earps allegedly stated told Wiegman she was “supporting poor attitude” by bringing Hampton back to the Lionesses lineup after dropping her for being “problematic and undependable.”

“It’s been really overwhelming to see how parts were misrepresented,” Earps stated publicly.

Explaining Her Motives

Earps firmly declared that her memoir was not designed to harm individuals.

“Certain events that took place at that time that I hoped had unfolded otherwise,” Earps remarked.

Private Challenges

In her book, Earps shared details of the bullying she suffered at in her younger years, describing it as a “extremely difficult” chapter to read again because it revived old wounds.

These emotions led to stress outbreaks, and Earps shared she faced challenges with self-perception and resorted to drinking during the lockdown period to manage emotional difficulties.

Earps recently shared that she is in a partnership with Kitty and stated she is proud about her relationship.

She also mentioned her desire to be a mother and revealed she has frozen her eggs for future use.

“I would love to be a mother and have a family of my own,” Earps stated. “I am passionate about soccer, but I wish to have a child later down the line.”

Earps described the egg-freezing procedure as “crazy and invasive” and called for more research tailored to sports professionals undergoing comparable treatments.
